The Amazing life of the World’s Youngest Billionaire- Evan Spiegel
You probably use Snap Chat every day; it has become one of the most popular social media applications. It’s inspiring to know that the CEO of the company is also the world’s youngest billionaire, 26 year old Evan Spiegel. As Snap Inc.’s public value is estimated to be $25 – 35 Billion, Evan Spiegel’s own value is estimated around $5 Billion, making him worthy of his title.
Born in 1990, he was raised Los Angeles, California and attended a very prestigious private school known as Crossroads in Santa Monica. Not surprisingly the yearly fee for his academic grooming was in the tens of thousands of dollars.
His first car at the age of 16 was a brand new Cadillac Escalade. Soon he wanted a more fuel efficient car to drive around the city. So, he asked his parents to lease him a BMW 550i which cost 75,000 $ at the time.
Living in a Bubble
The Spiegel family had memberships to a number of exclusive clubs in Santa Monica and would either spend their leisure hours there or on vacations to Europe or Canada. Spiegel himself says that he lived in a bubble.
Spiegel met future Snapchat cofounders Reggie Brown and Bobby Murphy at his time at Stanford University where he studied product design. He had also taken design classes at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and Otis College of Art and Design before enrolling at Stanford. Spiegel spent his university days partying at the Kappa Sigma Fraternity.
Met the Tech Giants
He attended talks of tech industry celebrities like Google CEO Eric Schmidt and YouTube cofounder Chad Hurley. He even befriended Intuit founder Scott Cook and worked on a product Intuit planned to release in India during his undergrad.
Spiegel bought his own three-bedroom house in Brentwood for $3.3 million in November 2014. Following the completion of a big funding in June 2015, Spiegel bought himself a Ferrari. In May 2016, he bought a 7,164-square-foot house that was previously the residence of Hollywood Icon and Star Wars star, Harrison Ford. The price tag, a whopping $12 million. He is also a licensed helicopter pilot.
Spiegel has previously had a fling with pop star Taylor Swift who reportedly met at a New Year’s Eve party in December 2013. After leaving Taylor Swift, he dated supermodel celebrity Miranda Kerr in the summer of 2015 who he first met at a Louis Vuitton dinner in 2014. Things escalated quickly from there. The two later announced their engagement in July 2016.
Turned Down Zuckerberg
Spiegel famously turned down the offer of $3 billion the CEO of FACEBOOK, Mark Zuckerburg, back in 2013. His status as a pioneer and visionary in social media means he will always be made such offers especially as he plans to make his company, now Snap Inc., public in March 2017.
